Below you will find an assortment of books, movies, articles, and statistical information that we have found incredibly useful in better understanding the Landscape of Poverty & Human Trafficking & the struggle of the Khmer (Cambodian) People. Before any of our volunteers travel with us we recommend they read all of the following books if possible. ‘Half the Sky’ by Nicholas Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn

This book paints the landscape of human trafficking and the exploitation of women throughout the developing world. It is an AMAZING resource.

First They Killed My Father’ by Loung Ung

This is an amazing and powerful true story about the Cambodian Genocide. We will be visiting the Genocide Memorial (also known as the Killing Fields) while we are in Phnom Penh. Angelina Jolie also made this book into a movie (link below).

The Pencil Of Promise’ by Adam Braun

This book is just an amazing read about the social impact/ nonprofit world and how this young man got his start. Its super inspirational and well written !

‘People Over Profit’ by Dale Partridge

This is an amazing book for anyone considering starting, or getting involved with, a non-profit or social enterprise. It is more of a business book, but it is great insight into how and why social impact organizations operate the way they do and full of awesome tools, personal anecdotes, and resources.
